Witnessing This Life

Hope and Forgiveness

I have thought a lot about hope and forgiveness over the last few years.  They are topics that are right up my alley, in that they are seen as important and central in the cancer experience, but they are difficult to quantify, to capture, or to describe in simple direct terms.  Hope and forgiveness mean different things to different people, and the fact is that most of us don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking of either.

I accept that my musings are the tip of the iceberg, but they have resulted in several talks and most recently, in the June lecture given at the Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology.  Every month they offer their Insights Into Cancer lecture — a free educational lecture for anyone who wants to come.  They’ve done this for over 20 years, and most of these are available in their online video archive.

It was truly an honor to be selected as one of their speakers, and I am grateful to everyone who came out that night to hear me speak.  For those of you who couldn’t get to Westwood, or who don’t live in the Los Angeles area, I am sharing the video of my talk this week.  Just click on the image below to watch.  I hope you enjoy it.
